The X Fold5's thinness was the first thing we noticed, and it's probably the most striking feature. According to Vivo, it only measures 9.2mm when folded and 4.3mm when unfolded. In addition, the X Fold5 is lighter than the S24 Ultra, despite having two displays, a hinge, all of the camera hardware, including two selfie cameras, and a 6,000 mAh battery. It sits at 217 grams, which might not sound light in the grand scheme of things, but is really impressive for a book-style foldable.

The X Fold5 doesn't put any extra strain on the thumb and fits comfortably in the hand. We might finally be "there" when it comes to modern foldable design - a phone that has all the benefits of a large second display and almost none of the drawbacks compared to a classic "slab" design.

First, let's talk about style. We greatly appreciate the X Fold5's decision to go with "elegant and timeless" over flashy. On our review unit, the back side is all one solid color, Titanium Gray. Additionally, the phone will be available in white and green, both with the same solid finish. All the details, such as the hinge and camera rings, are color-matched with the rest of the back side, which is a nice touch.  A very subtle color accent ring in what appears to be gold surrounds the camera island on our unit. It makes the whole bit pop a little.

When it came to sealing the X Fold5, Vivo really stood out. It features IP58/IP59 ingress protection, which is very impressive for a foldable device.  That means the phone is dust-protected and should be able to survive a dip in up to 3m of fresh water for up to 30 minutes.  Impressive stuff all around.

Before we move on to controls, it is worth saying a few words about the phone's hinge.  Like the rest of the build, it feels solid. There is no flex or give in it, at least not yet.  Because it is a linear hinge with equal resistance, you can open the phone at any angle you want. It features a satisfying snap on both ends.

Let's talk controls.  Vivo managed to fit a surprisingly large number of buttons on the X Fold5.  Yes, this is the brand-new custom button in the phone's top right corner. It can switch between vibration and ring mode and turn on the flash. It is technically positioned on the left frame when the phone is unfolded, while the volume rocker and power button are left on the right side.  All of the buttons are unsurprisingly very thin, almost to the point of being uncomfortable, but that is one tradeoff you have to make with a thin, foldable device.

 The camera system on the Galaxy Z Fold7 gets a solid upgrade this year, the first one in a while too.  The main camera is the most significant upgrade. It now uses the Galaxy S25 Ultra and S25 Edge's flagship 200MP ISOCELL HP2 sensor from Samsung. It's a considerable upgrade over the smaller 50MP sensor from last year.

The ultrawide camera also gets autofocus, but the hardware stays the same. The autofocus feature was a notable omission in previous generations, and it now allows you to shoot crisp, close-up macro stills.

Additionally, the internal selfie unit has been replaced. It now uses the same 10MP shooter as the one on the cover screen, but employs a wider lens with an 18mm focal length. Still concentrating, though. It's perhaps no surprise that the Galaxy Z Fold7 main camera produces virtually identical photos to the Galaxy S25 Edge and the S25 Ultra.

The stills we're looking at have excellent sharpness, a wide dynamic range, and a lot of detail. Samsung's recent shift to a more restrained post-processing is obvious here as the phone offers rather accurate and conservative color reproduction.  However, they are far from muted. The Galaxy Z Fold7 is now competitive with other foldables in this regard, but the overall quality is still a little lower than what you'd expect from a flagship phone from 2025.

We can't think of a reason why you would use the unbinned 50MP and 200MP photos, which are okay and not bad. They have a more limited dynamic range, are extremely soft, and offer a little bit more detail. The primary sensor's two-fold crop is, as was to be expected, quite satisfactory in most cases. We see minimal loss in sharpness and detail in close-distance objects, but foliage or fine detail in the distance is often smeared away, possibly due to the noise-reduction algorithm.

During the day, the 3x telephoto camera performs admirably outdoors, but it fails to impress in slightly more challenging lighting conditions. The camera does a good job of capturing fine detail in both close-up and far-away objects in bright sunlight; however, as the amount of light decreases, the quality begins to decline.

Even though the ultrawide camera doesn't sound very impressive on paper, it does a good job of matching the overall processing of the main camera when it comes to still images. Although it does not have the same dynamic range as the main camera, it is unquestionably one of the best ultrawide solutions, even on a flagship phone. On close-up objects, the autofocus captures a lot of fine detail and improves sharpness. The autofocus also enables macro mode.

Sharpness is excellent, colors are muted but not uninteresting, and there is a lot of fine detail. The way the software switches between the main camera and the ultrawide camera when detecting a close object seems to have improved as a result of this implementation. On the S25 Edge, it was a little finicky, but not here. On the inner display, the significant upgrade to the selfie camera is evident. Surprisingly, it is now superior to the outer one. Even though the two sensors are supposedly identical, the only difference is the lens (the inner selfie gets an ultrawide lens with a wider FoV).

The inner shooter typically produces skin tones and colors that are more likable and accurate. If you want better results, you'll need to manually activate the dedicated Night mode because, in typical Samsung fashion, the Auto Night mode rarely activates when the main camera is used. The stills taken in non-Night mode lack fine detail and appear extremely soft. We also notice that some light sources have a tendency to have a cold white balance, which makes them look green. Contrast also needs adjusting.

However, we like the naturally darker shadows. The majority of scenes are significantly altered by the Night mode. In places where there was plenty of light, the Night mode barely made any difference, but in most of our low-light scenes, the dedicated mode fixed the contrast, added some much-needed sharpness, albeit artificial, and produced better colors overall.  Additionally, the white balance is improved, and the colors appear much more realistic. Noise also sees improvement.

The small telephoto sensor's limitations become clear here. The non-Night mode stills are extremely noisy, lack fine detail and are way too soft to our taste.  Fortunately, the majority of the issues are fixed by the Night mode, which improves sharpness, reduces noise, and brightens the scene. However, even with Night mode enabled, we find the stills to be a bit on the soft side.

The software for Night mode is much more accommodating with the ultrawide camera. It's almost always active, but taking a picture takes a little too long. However, the outcomes are not all that bad. Images are generally clean, with a wide dynamic range and about as sharp as most ultrawide images we've seen from competitors.

 The Galaxy Z Fold7 now features a foldable 8.0-inch LTPO OLED panel with a resolution of 1968 x 2184 pixels and a nearly square aspect ratio. The model from last year had a 7.6-inch diagonal. Of course, the panel has all the bells and whistles - 120Hz refresh rate with granular control (more on that later) and HDR10+ support.

Sadly, the display does not support Dolby Vision, as with all Samsungs, but it can stream HDR content and works well with YouTube and Netflix. In both manual and auto mode, we measured the maximum brightness. With the extra brightness boost setting in manual mode, we achieved a maximum brightness of 707 nits.

In auto mode, the display reached 1,408 nits, which is approximately 200 nits lower than the measurement we obtained last year on the Z Fold6.  Since 1,400 nits is bright enough for comfortable outdoor use, it won't matter in real life. Additionally, the cover screen has increased by 0.2 inches to 6.5". Additionally, it has a better aspect ratio that is comparable to that of a standard phone. The resolution is 1080 x 2520px, which is slightly higher than before.

The cover screen, like the main foldable display, supports HDR10+ streaming and offers granular refresh rate control due to its 120Hz LTPO OLED display. Interestingly, this display is again slightly dimmer than its predecessor.  In manual mode, we measured a brightness of up to 688 nits, while auto mode boosted the brightness to 1,409 nits.  Still more than adequate for comfortable outdoor use.

The control of the refresh rate is fairly simple. Samsung offers two modes - Adaptive and Standard.  The standard caps the refresh rate to 60Hz.  The displays can go down to 24Hz to preserve power when the system deems necessary or when you are playing a 24fps video on your phone.

The Galaxy Z Fold7's 4,400 mAh battery capacity remains unchanged despite the thinner chassis. The more recent Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy, however, is marketed as a more energy-efficient than its predecessor and some of the results from our battery tests suggest so too.

The Z Fold7 scored an 11:44h Active Use Score.  Although this is still better than its predecessor, it is still a little below average when compared to its rivals. We see longer gaming and call runtimes (likely due to the new chipset), but lower web browsing scores due to the larger display.

We observed the same with the cover screen results.  Naturally, you get considerably longer battery life with the cover screen, but the 12:56h Active Use Score is still a tad lower than what we were expecting.

Again, the charging rate on this year's foldables from Samsung is far from ideal.  The Z Fold7 is one of the slowest-charging devices in its category, with only 25W wired charging and 15W wireless charging.  However, if you purchase a third-party charger, you should be aware that a USB-PD PPS-enabled Power Delivery charger is required to achieve 25W. The Z Fold7 features stereo speakers and has both drivers on its cover screen half.

The top unit has an opening that faces the cover screen because it also serves as an earpiece, and the sound is released through the frame's slits. The Galaxy Z Fold7 received an "Average" score of -28.3 LUFS for loudness, which is not very good for a device in this price range. The handset is also quieter than its predecessor, which is likely due to the smaller cavities used for the thinner chassis.

It's a bit hard to determine whether that last bit is true or not, but the panel does feel flatter when running fingers through the surface.  But visually, it looks about the same as it did last year, and I know from experience that the crease always gets bigger over time. According to Samsung's claims, the new design necessitates more aggressive bending of the display. As a result, the display uses ultra-thin glass that is 50% thicker and more durable. It's complemented by a grade 4 titanium lattice.  Despite this, Samsung asserts that the display package as a whole is now thinner.

The result is 4.2mm thickness when unfolded (down from 5.6mm), 8.9mm thickness when folded (down from 12.1mm) and a 24-gram reduction in weight (now 215 grams).  Those figures are well within the range of a standard, non-bendable smartphone. Indeed, the Galaxy Z Fold7 feels like a typical smartphone when held in the hand.

The more expansive cover display now has a more pleasant aspect ratio and further enhances the feel of using a standard smartphone when folded.  We just wish the two pointy edges next to the hinge were smoother, but you can't have it all.

The camera bump is now more apparent due to the thinner body. OnePlus Nord 5 Camera and Video Quality

 The Nord 5's camera system only receives a modest upgrade for selfies. Except for the telephoto sensor, it borrows most of the camera sensors from the Oppo Find N5 foldable. Our primary camera is a 50MP Sony LYT-700, and it is supported by a basic 8MP ultrawide unit without AF. Also, even when shooting at night, the OnePlus camera app felt very quick and smooth. It was slightly slower when taking ultrawide low-light photos, but the performance overall was solid.

The Nord 5 has a sensor that is better than the Nord 4, so its overall quality and processing are noticeably better. The new main camera processing is better at sharpness, detail, and color saturation. They are more alive than they were before, sitting somewhere in the middle of the Nord 3 and the Nord 4, where the Nord 3 produced stills that were too processed and oversaturated.

Dynamic range is just as good as before, maybe even a tad wider and indoor performance is excellent.  Having said that, the camera's absolute sharpness isn't very good. We've seen sharper renditions of these scenes (see our reviews of the Poco F7 or even the Honor 400).

We are pretty happy with how the portraits turned out.  In both the standard Photo mode and the dedicated Portrait mode, they are sharp and detailed with a wide dynamic range. The 50MP stills are, to put it mildly, unimpressive due to their soft rendition and limited dynamic range.

The 2x zoom crops have also been improved. Compared to the generation before them, they appear sharper and more detailed. With minimal quality loss, the overall rendition is identical to the 1x images. Even indoor shots are clean and detailed.

Sadly, the ultrawide camera offers only brighter colors and no other notable enhancements. The camera still produces rather soft images with limited dynamic range and lacks fine detail. Additionally, despite having the same 8MP resolution, there is no autofocus, which is becoming an important feature in the mid-range segment and does require a sensor of higher quality.

The selfie camera's upgrade to the 50MP ISOCELL JN5 sensor adds a lot of value and significantly improves image quality when compared to the Nord 4. The selfies are clean, sharp, and detailed, with a wide dynamic range, retaining good quality even indoors. The subject's face is always well-exposed, and the colors are true. The autofocus is greatly appreciated and helps with the nice and sharp selfies.

The main camera's low-light images are pretty good. They look clean, sharp and detailed, even in the shadows.  Regarding the shadows, we find them to be a little too bright, and some of the highlights are almost clipped. Despite using the same processing as the 1x zoom photos, the sharpness and resolution of the 2x zoom stills are noticeably lower. Given the device's class and the size of the sensor, this is not surprising. After dark, the results from the ultrawide camera are just okay.

Despite their lack of dynamic range, they appear to have a good HDR effect despite their softness. The colors are acceptable and there is no noise in them. The main and selfie cameras on the device can record up to 4K video at 60 frames per second, while the ultrawide camera can only record 1080p at 30 frames per second. OnePlus provides an additional Ultra Steady mode that imitates action cameras in addition to EIS, which is available in all modes. The frame rate is 60 frames per second, and the resolution is limited to 1080p.

 The OnePlus Nord 5 gets a bigger and faster display this time around.  The handset features a 6.83-inch OLED panel with 144Hz refresh rate and a 1272 x 2800px resolution.  Additionally, the panel supports HDR10+, Dolby Vision, high PWM brightness control for reduced eye strain, and the Ultra HDR standard.

The display can get decently bright during real-world performance. In manual mode, our device produced up to 787 nits, while auto mode produced up to 1330 nits. In our experience, anything above 1,000 nits is enough for a comfortable outdoor experience.

The phone has three refresh rate modes - Auto, Standard and High.  The latter option is still automatic in the sense that it dials down the refresh rate to 60Hz when the screen is idle, but it prioritizes high-refresh rates in apps.  For instance, Chrome doesn't go beyond 90Hz in Auto mode, but boosts up to 120Hz in High mode.

The only way to achieve the advertised 144Hz refresh rate is in games.  In particular, in the few games that OnePlus has whitelisted. This includes titles like BGMI, Call of Duty: Mobile, and Free Fire.  In some cases, such as in Call of Duty: Mobile, the 144Hz refresh rate is automatically achieved in game.  In BGMI, there is a slightly convoluted procedure involved in first setting the game to the lowest graphical preset/highest in game refresh rate and then enabling the Adaptive Frame Booster option through the OnePlus gaming overlay.  The phone then uses frame generation to achieve the 144Hz refresh rate.

Considering its limited application, it feels disingenuous to claim that the phone has a 144Hz refresh rate display.  Sure, the hardware is there, but you really aren't experiencing it most of the time.  And if you don't play the games where it is accessible, you functionally just have a 120Hz display, which feels like a scam.

 The X100 Ultra was a superb cameraphone overall, but it could use some improvement on the ultrawide end.  The X200 Ultra delivers that, plus it spices things up with a new camera inbetween the ultrawide and the telephoto - one with a 35mm equivalent lens.  The telephoto itself has been a little touched up too, now getting a brighter lens.

The 'main' camera no longer uses a 1.0-inch type sensor, instead getting one with a 1/1.28" optical format.  Although 35mm smartphone cameras aren't all that common, we can see the appeal of the longer focal length for many photo ops. In general, we don't like seeing smaller sensors where there were previously larger ones. However, in this case, perhaps we can be convinced by the 35mm-equivalent lens that has been paired with it. So it's not really a downgrade, but rather an exploration in a slightly different direction.

What's undeniably an upgrade is the ultrawide camera, whose sensor has grown from 1/2.0" to 1/1.28" - it's the same sensor that's used on the 35mm camera making the whole 'main-vs-ultrawide' differentiation a moot point.  And unlike our recent run-in with an unusually good ultrawide camera on the Xperia 1 VII, the one on the vivo is properly ultrawide with an equivalent focal length of 14mm.

The X200 Ultra sees vivo jump on the camera control key bandwagon.  It's where you'd expect it to be to mimic the operation of a shutter release (courtesy of the vibration motor), and it's also a control dial thanks to the touch sensor embedded in it.  You can slide to change focal lengths continuously or switch between the four preset zoom levels, or do exposure compensation.  You can disable some of these functions too if you'd prefer a more minimalist approach, or disable all of the sliding action.

Separately from the swiping functionality, you can use the double press on the 'button' to launch the camera (in one of a list of modes).  That too can be disabled.  Overall, it's a nice addition to the feature set if you're the type of person to use it, and if you're not, it can be easily disabled entirely.

With the X200 Ultra's 'all main camera' setup, we might as well just start with the ultrawide.  At its native 14mm equivalent focal length it produces superb images.  Sharpness is excellent, detail is plenty and it's rendered nicely, there's no noise to speak of.  Even in indoor conditions with higher ISOs quality doesn't really degrade in any meaningful way.

Things remain pretty solid at 28mm - the next focal length that the X200 Ultra offers to bridge the gap between the ultrawide and the 35mm camera.  Pixel-level detail isn't exactly pin-sharp and probably every flagship-grade 24mm camera will outresolve these shots, if you stare at foliage and fabrics and such (though a 24mm vs. 28mm can complicate such comparisons).  Still, if you tone down the pixel-peeping, you should be happy with these photos.

Additionally, the dynamic range and colors remain delightful. Moving on to the 35mm camera, we're getting another round of great images. They stand out because of their distinctive three-dimensional appearance. Other than that, things are predictably excellent in terms of detail, the dynamic range is top-notch, and colors maintain the appealing balance of accuracy and pop we got to see on the ultrawide.

Selfies out of the X200 Ultra are also top-notch.  They have great detail and the autofocus allows for some closeups if you're into making weird faces.  Skin tones are accurate and lifelike, though we'd probably like to see a bit more saturation overall. The X200 Ultra's ultrawide camera does a remarkable job at night and treats us to what are possibly the best photos of its kind.  Sharp and detailed, well exposed, with accurate white balance and lively colors - we can't really think of something to complain about.

 You won't be disappointed by the 6.82-inch display on the X200 Ultra. It's an LTPO OLED panel with adaptive refresh rate in the 1-120Hz range, has a 1440p resolution (510ppi pixel density), 10-bit color support, and Dolby Vision compliance.

In our brightness testing, the vivo maxed out at just over 1,800nits in auto mode, essentially the same result as the X100 Ultra and the X200 Pro, earning a spot among the brighter panels out there.  It's a bit more conservative when it comes to allowing you to get nits at your own discretion - we measured 566nits at the top end of the slider.

The X200 Ultra will readily dial down to 1Hz when idling, regardless of which refresh rate mode you select - Standard will impose a 60Hz cap, while the default Smart adaptation and High modes will both go all the way up to 120Hz.  In High mode you can go ahead and apply 60Hz limits on a per-app basis.  Contrary to popular belief, Smart mode in browsers allows for 90Hz/90fps, whereas High mode limits them to 60Hz. The phone will also maintain a high refresh rate for games that can go above 60fps.

The X200 Ultra supports HDR10 and Dolby Vision, as well as the mostly Chinese HDR Vivid standard.  There was no HDR capability in Netflix, which is to be expected given the China-only status of the phone, even if our Chinese X200 Pro did support HDR in Netflix.  Either way, the Widevine L1 compliance does ensure FullHD playback.

In contrast, YouTube was happy to serve HDR content, even in PiP mode. The phone fully supports the Android Ultra HDR standard for photos so it records metadata in the images it captures and it displays them with enhanced highlights in both its own gallery app as well as in Google Photos.  It also recognizes other compliant images in Chrome and displays them accordingly.

The new model marked a small improvement in the overall Active Use Score, with the only tangible increase being in the gaming test.  The video playback runtime is marginally longer, web browsing turned out slightly shorter, and so too did the call time.  All things considered, the X200 Ultra is trailing behind the competition, though we'd still consider it to be a dependable daily companion.

The X200 Ultra is rated for 90W charging and that's also what the bundled adapter is specced for.  In our testing, we got a fleeting 20-second stint at around 72W and the power then dropped to 52W, before settling at around 33W.  Charging power ratings don't mean much, no.

The X200 Ultra took around 49 minutes to get from flat to 100% (with some 8 minutes on top of that before it stopped drawing significant power and got to a full state).  At the half-hour checkpoint, the battery indicator was showing 64%.  The results are on par with the previous model and this year's Pro, and we wouldn't call them impressive - while that's more or less a recurring theme with recent models, the Find X8 Ultra, for example, can still charge notably faster.

The X200 Ultra uses a conventional stereo speaker setup with one bottom firing unit and another driver up top that also serves as an earpiece for voice calls.  The two speakers only output their respective channels and the phone switches these automatically to match its orientation in space.

In our loudspeaker test, the X200 Ultra outperformed the previous model and performed on par with the X200 Pro in terms of loudness, receiving a rating of "Very Good."  You want it because you can't have it, right? Well, no - we know we'll want the vivo X200 Ultra because of its camera greatness, just like we did with the X100 Ultra before.  Not being able to have it isn't remotely part of its appeal - all it is, is one the world's most unfortunate enduring injustices.

The 1/1.28" optical format of the new imager is a slight downgrade, so vivo has decided to replace the 1-inch main camera on the X200 Ultra with one with a smaller sensor. To make up for that, the company has chosen to pair it with a 35mm equivalent lens - not the most popular choice, so far almost an exclusive territory for nubia's camera efforts.  It could be an attempt at misdirection by vivo so that we shift our focus away from the smaller sensor, though they just might be on to something with that focal length.

A proper upgrade can be seen on the ultrawide camera.  It's another unit of the same sensor that is used here as well, replacing the 1/2.0" imager in the old model's setup.  The 200MP 1/1.4" sensor on the 85mm telephoto didn't really call for an upgrade so it's been kept the same.  It's really more like three 'main' cameras on the back of this Ultra, joined by one of the better specced selfie cameras in the industry.

The large circular camera assembly is the default approach to fitting several large-sensor modules.  The X200 Ultra has its three cameras neatly arranged, with a fourth circle just for appearances.  What's most unusual is that there's no gradual transition between the flat back and the camera bump - it's a one-step design with the entire 61mm circle sticking out by a good 7mm.  Compare it to the X100 Ultra with its intermediate step and two chamfers.

You'd think it would be an issue or at least a nuisance in handling but we didn't experience it catching on to the insides of pockets or anything, though that just might vary from person to person (and pocket to pocket).  If anything, we feel like you could use the camera bump to prop up the phone with your index finger, lifting some of the weight off of the pinkie.

The glass back of our red review unit has a frosted finish with a bit of a pearlescent effect going on - it's sort of a royal red hue that looks quietly stylish rather than flashy.  The silver version has vertical stripes all the way up to the camera bump equator, whereas the black version has a slight knurled crosshatch texture. Over on the front, vivo has moved away from the distinctly curved sides on the X100 Ultra.

The X200 Ultra could mostly be described as having a flat facade, though there's now the gentlest rounding of the panel along the entire periphery, ensuring a pleasant swiping experience without compromising handling (if we assume that more pronouncedly curved screens are detrimental to handling, that is).  Still, the Find X8 Ultra is almost perfectly flat, this one isn't quite.

The flatter front has resulted in a flatter frame too - there's now a more substantial aluminum rail to hold on to.  A new addition this time around is a camera control button - or, rather, a touch and press sensitive strip placed where a shutter release button would be, if the X200 Ultra was a camera-camera.
